Why do my muscles get sore after my workouts?

Through the years from high school to adulthood I have tried many different workout programs. These ranged from Richard Simmons (Dancing to the Oldies), Elliptical and gym weights to T25, 21 Day Fix and now PiYo with Chalene Johnson. What do they all have in common? My muscles hurt when I first started the workouts. Depending on the workout and what body parts were used, but I always found that I was sore somewhere. When I have new challengers in my Beachbody Challenge groups I hear many times that they have muscle soreness, especially in the first week. Slightly sore muscles are normal at the beginning or change up of your fitness program.

When you perform physical activities you contract your muscles and essentially cause microscopic damage to the muscle fibers and connective tissue. Some soreness you will notice immediately; other times it is delayed 24 to 48 hours after your workout routine.
It is a positive sign to feel muscle soreness as long as you are using proper form and technique. This is your bodies way of telling you that the activity being performed is new and part of the process to a new and healthier you.

Epson Salt is a good source of magnesium and has multiple household uses including relieving muscle soreness.
1. As a relaxing Magnesium Bath Soak – Add at least 1 cup of Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes.

2.  Body Aches- Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak for at least 20 minutes to help relieve muscle sprains and for a trans-dermal magnesium boost.
